'I am interested in places that are in some way agitated or persuasive, or that possess qualities that may not be immediately identifiable or explicable; landscapes loaded with histories and associations'.
Stephen Harwood is an artist concerned with place and its accompanying narratives; much of Harwood's work explores the changing landscapes of East London, in particular Hackney where he lives and works.

Recent exhibitions include solo shows - London Fields at Finch Gallery/Finch Projects, London, Gone Tomorrow, studio1.1, London and Dark Times, Three Colt Gallery, London. Group shows - Amazing Things Happen Every Day at The Stash Gallery, British Painting 3 at Bermondsey Project Space, This Year's Model at studio 1.1, Picture Palace at Transition Gallery, Mycorrhiza and Extancy curated by Sluice at AMP Gallery, Store/Room at studio1.1, all London and A Moveable Feast at Platforms Project Art Fair, Athens.

Stephen has also shown his films at Filmhuiskamer, Rotterdam, Coventry Cathedral - Open Projections 3, Angus-Hughes Gallery, London, the Wotever Film Festival at the London Cinema Museum and at a series of artists’ film nights at Hackney Picturehouse which he also co-curated.

Stephen is an MA Fine Art graduate of Central St Martins.
