Felstead Art is pleased to present Which Way You Look At It, a solo collection of wordpaintings by Niki Hare. These striking typographical artworks act as dialogues, exploring ideas of poetry, perception, and interpretation.

By approaching painting as a language, Niki overlaps layers of thoughts and words, creating an ongoing text that is continuously painted over, each new layer hiding and obscuring the previous. Acting as a form of personal visual diary for Niki, each work depicts her emotions at any given time. She often layers words over her pieces so she doesn’t feel as exposed and vulnerable.

Niki’s wordpaintings encourage the viewer to investigate, to try to read and interpret in their own way. They incite projection and reflection of the viewers own emotions as they interpret the text.

Niki Hare is a self-taught British artist who works with various mediums, mainly focusing on painting. Her art delves into themes of existence and individual perception, creating spontaneous pieces that play with layers and narratives, allowing for multiple interpretations and emphasizing the transient nature of life. Her work conveys a sense of the temporary and imbalance, serving as a means of therapeutic expression.

Hare’s unprocessed and spontaneous approach to art lets her move fluidly from one canvas to another, experimenting with building up and removing layers, rediscovering forgotten elements to further develop. She draws inspiration from everyday thoughts, sights, and sounds, finding joy in crafting narratives open to diverse interpretations.

Niki has quickly gained considerable international interest and has now been featured in exhibitions in the UK, Germany, and the USA. Her works have been placed in many private collections worldwide.
