Felstead Art forms an artist collective supporting the creative community of Hackney Wick and the surrounding areas in East London. Our 70+ strong group of artists reflect the significance this area has on the London art world. We look to provide the means for our artists to connect and collaborate with each other, whilst also offering them a range of supportive services intended to advance and develop their artistic careers.
Launching in 2022, Felstead Art started as a response to the dramatic and continuous changes to Hackney Wick and the surrounding areas. Aggressive regeneration and gentrification has seen the creative community in the area rapidly change, and suffer in many parts. We endeavour to offer support to those artists working in this tentative and evolving moment. Alongside our collective and networking activities, we offer a range of services including advisory, career development, bespoke framing, conservation and restoration, reporting and appraisals, printing and digitisation, logistics, transportation, art handling, packaging and crating, and artwork and collection management. These services are offered to both our artists as well as the public.
Our work in Hackney Wick began in 2017 with Felstead Studios, a bespoke framing business focusing predominantly on contemporary art. We have since found ourselves in conversation with numerous artists, creative practitioners, and residents over the years on the evident changes in the area, in particular about the survival and erosion of cultural capital that once served as the lifeblood of Hackney Wick. We are acutely aware of how our community is observing and responding to these changes and are having to continuously navigate the tremulous landscape of belonging and non-belonging. Felstead Art springboards off these existing discussions and narratives, bringing our experience to the table in the hope that we can shine more light on the existing group of artists and makers currently shaping the creative heritage in Hackney Wick.
We will have a continuous open call to all artists in the area to join us. We're interested in talking about any creative practices in Hackney Wick and the surrounding areas in East London. This can include fine arts and prints, illustration, sculpture, installation art, urban & graffiti, photography, textile art, metalwork, jewellery, ceramics, glasswork, and woodwork.
